Tonight's (Not) Live Broadcast Preview

The rumors have been confirmed - tonight's show will be taped earlier in the afternoon, and the BB sites have been filled with complaints.

But I sort of get the reasoning behind it, as I don't believe it's just because of the fears of a few curses or racial epithets getting through. This is bound to be the most explosive episode in history, and tempers could lead things to get out of hand. CBS is just as afraid of hand gestures and violence as they are of the "seven words you can't say on TV". Flipping a person off can't be digitally blurred on the fly, and even the quickest control room can't guarantee that they'll make the camera changes on time.

It sucks, but is the reality of broadcast television.

I don't care if it's on tape delay...this is going to be AWESOME!

And Scott, I think this being the most explosive episode in history was due to the very fact that it was going to be a live show. The only issue I might have with this is missing out on the raw reactions.

Do they not think audience members will potentially leak information before the show airs?

Why are people being so pissy? We are going to get to see it regardless. I'd almost prefer the evictions to be taped, that way they could cut short the mindless Julie talking to houseguests/HOH parts where we learn absolutely nothing.
GAH! Jeff better friggin use this thing. I hope Russell hasn't burned his bridges with absolutely everyone.
SO. MUCH. EXCITEMENT!

This is one of those rare nights when that awkward 30 second shot of the house reaction as they walk into the kitchen is worth seeing.

And yeah, Ale, I understand what you're saying, but I also understand the network concerns. There's too many suits and lawyers involved these days that are way too worried about offending anybody.

I blame all of this on Janet Jackson's titty. Ever since that Super Bowl, TV standards and the FCC have been clamping down like we're in communist China or something.
DAMN YOU TITTY!

Jeff has the power tonight to turn the house upside down. If he can get Jessie out tonight, the whole dynamic of the game is changed. Jessie has owned, controlled and lived in the HOH bed since the season began, Jeff HAS to get Frankenstein's Monster out of the house to give the viewers some mercy. I want to get to see one of the non ugly persons in the house in the HOH room. The crowd that has occupied the room is nasty.

Actually, I'm wondering if CBS will be watching the audience to stop real-time blogging or keep the audience net-silent try to control the presentation ("everything was cool... so-and-so is gone because of 'personal issues'" spin). Wonder how many audience members will try to go to the loo as soon as something happens...

Heheh TITTY. The root of all of our network viewing problems.

I just like my drama fresh off the cooker, not a few hours old. ;/

HamsterDame is reporting all the HGs were told to pack this morning...

Scott, you may want to open another post.

Speculation Time!

August 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCal

Well, "anyone" apart from the HoH and Veto holder can end up going home, right? ;)

August 13, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterale

I believe that it's routine for cell phones and other devices to be collected at a TV taping. Besides the leaking of info, they don't want ringtones interrupting the broadcasts.

August 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterScott

I'm almost sad that I won't be able to watch the fees this weekend.

August 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterScott

Yeah, there's nothing to read into the fact that everybody but Chima and Kevin have to pack. That's pretty much understood even if the mystery power holder (aka Jeff) decides not to use it.

August 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterScott

Doh!

You're right, of course. After all, who knows who would go up if the power is used (at least as far as the HGs know ;) ).

August 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCal

Imagine the bricks Jesse's shitting at this very moment. Would the taping be under way right now?

August 13, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterale

Wasn't the audience reporting to the studio at 2pm?

August 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDavid__

Chima went nuts and had to be restrained by security. Al Sharpton showed up and screamed that he was outraged that a proud, black woman was deprived of her HOH delights by whitey...aka CBS.

Jessie punched out Jeff and was arrested.

The show ended with Kevin shouting...I am NOT a lump!

Good stuff, Reefer.

As for the taping time, they had to report at 11:30 instead of 2:00. Keep in mind that they have to go through security before taking their seats, and then there's warmup stuff as they check cameras and mics and things like that. The taping may have already started, but I'll bet it will be a little bit later today, as they'll want enough time to make any necessary edits but yet not have too much time elapse before turning the feeds back on.

August 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterScott

If Chima was a black man would they have allowed the same comments to be made towards Russell... I am not saying he is without blame... his game reminds me at times of Evel Dick... but if Chima was male they would have shut her down on the terrorist comments... I think that CBS has been weak when it comes to her...

August 13, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterlmanson

I just read an unverified leak that if true will ensure tonight is worth viewing.

August 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterScott

SCOTT. Don't post stuff like that and not expect my crazy little mind to race >o

August 13, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterale

I think I glimpsed what you're talking about. Now I wish I'd kept it a surprise for myself. I'm such a brat! haha

August 13, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterale

BAH! So it looks like I'm pretty much going to have to cut myself off from all things internet for the rest of the night until I finally get to see the show. Thank god for satellite, because there is no way I am going to be able to wait for the Pacific time zone broadcast.
SOOOO EXCITED!

This is one spoiler I really didn't want to ruin. If anybody wants to know, email me at hudson@iw.net.
