No More B.S.!

I've been thinking about writing this post for a few days now, but have not wanted to fan the flames.

I can't hold back any longer, though.

As I've stated many times on this blog and our podcast, I've enjoyed this season more than any of the last handful. This was mainly because there weren't any returning players to temper and handicap the play of the new contestants. With the exception of one stunt casting, and a twist designed to protect her, everybody started the season on an even keel.

Yes, there have been a ton of questionable comments and actions. Yes, some people have acted inappropriately. Yes, people have made disastrous moves. That's what happens when you have a cast of reality show virgins! You get drama! Isn't that what has been missing in previous years? People should be rejoicing!

They're not. In fact, I've never seen a season where the fanbase has taken the show so seriously. I'm not just talking about the cat ladies who want rules tweaked, bent and broken to ensure their favorite makes it untouched to the end. I'm not talking about the usual double standards for behavior, or the demand that the rest of the house do nothing but what furthers their hero.

It's getting much scarier than that, and it needs to stop.

There are sites out there created by people that clearly have too much time on their hands. These sites include private information of not only those in the house but their families and friends. When one brain surgeon tweeted a family phone number earlier this week, they were inundated with harrassing phone calls for the rest of the day.

Seriously, you cretins, get a fucking life.

You can love and hate anybody you want. You can think this person is trash, or that person is a beautiful angel. That's part of the fun of the show.

When they're out of the house, you can then throw whatever verbal jabs you want. I've admittedly had my fun with certain people over the years. No matter their sins, though, the families don't deserve this. Their parents shouldn't have to take down their business websites or disconnect their phones. You are NOT their judge and jury.

You, not those in the house, are ruining this season. If the show doesn't return next summer, I hope you all look at yourselves in the mirror. It won't be because of the ratings or the various live feed controversies. It will because you busy bodies are giving the producers and lawyers such a headache it won't be worth the risk of putting on the air. Will you be happy then? Either that or it will be a house full of Helen's organizing knitting parties. We definitely don't need that!

Yes, there have been very outrageous things said and done by some of the HGs, and yes, as adults you would think they'd know better. They signed up for the game, knowing their every move, every word would be broadcast on national tv 24/7. They will have to face the consequences of their actions in some form, and rightly so. Their families did not sign up for the show. The "fans" who attack/threaten them are no better than the HGs who these so called "fans" are disgusted with. If they feel that strongly about things they hear and see on the show it would be best if they stop watching it. I think about how I would feel if my son or daughter was one of the HGs. It would be extremely difficult to watch, knowing that there would be nothing I could do to make them see what they were doing was wrong. As a parent, that would be heart wrenching, but that wouldn't make me love them any less. Now, on top of that, some crazy "fans" decide to let these poor parents know what their children are doing is wrong by threatening them and attacking them? What makes these "fans" think they are making the situation better? What do they hope to accomplish by their behavior? If the show were to be cancelled, it wouldn't be cancelled based on what the HGs did or said, it would be cancelled because of the "fans" who didn't know how to behave themselves. The HGs are competing for a large sum of money, and I know that doesn't excuse alot of their behavior, but sometimes people will go to extremes they wouldn't normally go to when money is involved..just saying..But their families haven't done anything to anyone. How would these "fans" who are attacking/threatening these families feel if someone did that to their families?

Hang on. Let me look through all of the posts and twitters to show you a big nothing.

It will take me a while. Are you willing to wait?

Otherwise, just say that you are happy with what happened and be done with it. It would save me the trouble.

@ Tara

I felt like you were accusing Spencer of being a pedophile; something I know he is not. I can tell you (with conviction) that Spencer will be horrified by how his inappropriate joke was misconstrued by the media as an admission of guilt.

I was not trying to attack you, and am sorry if you felt that way.

Jacinjax, good points.

To go a bit more off topic we could theorize where the wheels started to come off Big Brother. I personally look to the exit of Arnold Shapiro as executive producer in 2006 (Last season was BB7). If memory serves he started to take a reduced roll after BB5 and that's when Allison Grodner took the more prominent production roll and in my opinion, the conflict and fights increased dramatically in the house (As the Cappy / Michael fight happened in BB6 - that night sticks out in my mind as I was amazed it was allowed to happen). I think if Arnold was still running the show some of these issues would NEVER have come up or would have been dealt with immediately.

I don't think we fans should take our "game" excitement beyond the game. No families or friends should every be brought into this. However it is a sad state when we think that watching the behavior of the contestants on this season's "game" is entertaining. I don't mind "creative" game play...but this season is too painful to watch. If this is the direction CBS is taking with BB, I won't miss it. If this is what they have to offer, it is not worth it.

@Michelle

So not mentioning it means I'm for it?

Ok then.

Enjoy your evening.

Yes, yes, yes. Great blog and well said!

I ranted about this last year in chat rooms & comment boxes but all I Am is a ranter not a writer. I Was infuriated last year when numerous death threats were made against Shelly Moore's daughter as well as other hate talk. The hate I saw in numerous chat rooms was every bit as disgusting as the recast & sexual hate from this year's HGs.

Fans feel entitled to ANY type of behavior online and on social media. You can hide your name and face while spewing whatever you want.

I no longer join chat rooms or watch the live feeds instead I am watching BBUK, BBAU & BBCA. These are totally different shows from ours, they focus on the social experiment aspect allowing conflict but discouraging the hateful personal behavior that US fans desire. Yes it seems our society is embracing the no boundaries behavior where the UK and Australia will not tolerate it.

The only reason I am continueing to watch is to see how CBS handles the controversy at and after the finale.

After dropping the feeds and chat rooms this year, & then seeing the disgraceful group of HGs, it is My Choice to only watch BBCA, BBUK & BBAU in the future. When I Listening to and read all the hate it makes me behave like a hater also.

We Fans got what we wanted, a game where anything goes. I just don't want THAT anymore.

chickey,

The shows been on for over 2 months, why are you still watching and participating in discussing this show if it bothers you so? Its really hard to take your comments seriously, maybe if it was week 2 or 3, but not week 10, sorry.

THANK YOU AUTHOR, A MILLION TIMES, THANK YOU.

Amanda is the newest BB legend, but REGARDLESS, it is a GAME and no one is ruining the show but the "fans" (those are not real fans).

Understand the difference between personal and gameplay and please stop the constant hate, or stop watching 24/7!!

I hope this encourages more people to speak out in this sense and show there are real supporters and real fans of the show and of Amanda.

WHAT YOU HAVE DONE MAKES YOU NO BETTER THAN WHAT YOU'RE COMPLAINING ABOUT. SHAME ON YOU. THERE IS ONLY ONE JUDGE.

Even if Big Brother returns next season, live feeds could be a thing of the past and we will get a highly edited show on CBS. One major effect would be great web sites that cover Big Brother and have covered the show for years, will die.

It is a sad state of affairs that some people can no longer agree to disagree with civility and respect. Harassing family members of people on a reality show is not only wrong on so many levels, it is against the law. The crazy individuals doing such idiotic things need to look in the mirror and think how they would feel if someone did the same thing to them.

Did someone actually try to say that the reason viewers were attacking HG's family members is because they felt helpless due to the racist comments that have been made? Hmmm, with that reasoning it was ok that kids who were bullied went to school and shot up the place. Whatever happened to sticks and stones? Not to mention, who uses reality television to solve all the worlds problems? RIDICULOUS!!! TV should be used for entertainment purposes only. Have you people ever watched Boardwalk Empire? The "N" word is used alot. I wonder if anyone ever trashes the writers for that? And don't give me that is a "fictional show" bullcrap. It doesn't matter. When a "character" uses that word, it just makes that character look bad. Same for reality tv. When one of the HG says something racist, they are just hurting themselves, because the majority of us know that it's wrong. That doesn't mean we should attack their family members for saying it. The person who said it should take the blame and in this case, it's not only hurt their reputations, but it's hurt their games.

Celebrate bigotry. It's fun! Rejoice for the entertainment of scumbag behavior from Amanda and company. It's fun! No judgement. Even if it leads to the type of thought process that gave us Zimmerman and Martin. It's all fun!

Didn't Amanda's parents go on the show to talk about their daughter''s showmance? You say "bullshit", I say, fair game. So are you saying that if their family member was getting accolades, they wouldn't want to be praised? Double standards. I certainly hope they AREN'T being threatened but if people are expressing the disgust of their family member, then suck it up. Just like you would have sucked up the praise had your child been a decent person. Which in Amanda's case, she is not. What scares me about her terrorizing behavior is that she now says she got her medication and feels better. People who need medication to behave themselves should NOT be on this show. She then, after weeks of being a disgusting slob, went on a cleaning frenzy. Is she being told what the viewers think of her? I feel like they told her that America hates her and thinks she's a pig so she's doing a 180 to try to fix it. Blaming her meds and cleaning. Weird or psychotic, I don't know which.

You were right you should have waited to write this garbage. You spew it out like it is ok to bully , progress harassment and threaten to murder. Congratulations on siding with a culture that thinks gang rape is ok. You have proven yourself worthy of your blog.
Yes you should have waited, really you should have not written this at all, and your words are not worth putting on paper.
As far as family being harassed Amanda's father was on twitter taunting others for the fate of his daughter. It is never a one way street. Two sides to every story.
Congratulations

It's a TV SHOW GAME....a GAME....what happens in the house does nothing to the person watching the TV or computer screen...at the end of the day you turn off your tv and go to bed and aren't affected at all...and the HG ...well that's their job..to do what is needed to win. No one is being assaulted or physically hurt...if you can't take it mentally well that's your problem...then leave the game...Amanda is using whatever she can to get in the heads of the other houseguests and that is how she wants to play. If they don't like it then vote her out....and CBS loves every second of it..it's TV gold!!!

this season alone has ruined so many lives no need to get there families involved it's too far. This may be the downfall of this show if people on the outside threading families or even the hfs when they get out. i actually fear for there lives alone and country hating you.

if 1 thing happens to any hg after the season the show will be and should be cancelled
August 28, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterregen
Yes, it is wrong for fans to complain about the bullying and racism they see on this show and then participate in this same behaviour themselves by acting out against the families of these HG's. but in "reality", we live in a society made up of many personality types. Some people are capable of some crazy chit. The problem that I have with this controversy is that CBS allowed BB to take this "social experiment", that they know has a devout social media following, and ventured into the territory these HG's have lead us to. Is it really a surprise that the outcome of this "experiment" would be the inappropriate reaction from some crazy fans. CBS dealt out some "reality" and in turn triggered some "reality", all for the sake of ratings.

Thank you Thank you Thank you. I am so sick of the hate this year. The house guests have not killed it for me the people who can only talk hate and go after them and their families. I have to ask if they all watched what they say and acted would any of us watch? I think not drama and craziness is why we all watch.
August 28, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBeth
Yes. If people have to take meds per their doctor because they can't control themselves, they certainly shouldn't be allowed to be on television shows. This means you MICHAEL J. FOX!
August 28, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMatt
I agree with Scott, attacking families is just taking things a bit too far. These houseguests are an accurate representation of members of our society. They are not role models. Their behavior is solely a reflection of them and not their families. I'm pretty sure their families are embarrassed to say the least. There have been some nasty things said in that house, but I'm not surprised. The houseguests are in for a reality check when they leave the house and that's punishment enough. Keyboard courage is an epidemic in this age of social media, you can attack folks without ever showing your face. Try not to shart your pants when you get a knock at the door.
August 28, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterChire
@Matt I'm guessing you're addressing my comment. I said if you need medication to "behave" yourself. Not controll themselves, which could mean different things. If someone terrorizes someone else to the extent that they're threatening their life, and then later says I feel better now that I took my meds, then they should not be on a social experiment reality show where you're locked in a house with others who will most likely annoy you. To compare that to someone who has Parkinson's is ignorant. Also I believe Amanda was using her not having her meds as an excuse for her bad behavior. You don't have to agree with me but your response should actually pertain to what I said.
August 28, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterItiswhatitis
I agree with you, families should be off limits. Outside AND inside the BB house. Unfortunately, several of the houseguests have not respected that themselves. The biggest problem with reality tv is that people on these shows feel as if they HAVE to act more despicably, more vile, more shameful than any in previous years. And unfortunately, because this is "reality," and they get away with this behavior, it shows all of us that it is ok. So, the filth just oozes its way of the tv and into real reality.

"Seriously, you cretins, get a fucking life."

First, you might want to learn the definition of cretin. Next, you should take your own advice.

Oh the horror - people do not like this season of Big Brother or the behavior of the HGs? This is America, and they have every right to their opinion. Does this mean that you do not believe in freedom of speech?

Please get off your high-horse, and don't hurt yourself.
