Ch-ch-ch-changes!

Last week, it was announced that David Goldberg, the head of the North American branch of Endemol, will be stepping down later this year. Endemol is the production company that owns Big Brother, and word is that he’s not the only person affiliated with the show that will not be a part of next season.

Yes, it seems that the wishes of a lot of hardcore fans may be coming true, as there are tons of rumors that Big Brother executive producer Allison Grodner and casting director Robyn Kass will also be let go. Finally!

The real question, however, if these rumors are true is how much will the show actually change? The gut reaction from most hardcore seem to believe that the entire format will be gutted, but I doubt that this will be the case. Certain aspects will be tweaked, and it’s probably safe to say that Grodner’s favorite pets (Jesse, Jeff/Jordan, the Reilly family) will finally be taken off the Rolodex, but there’s no way that the show will suddenly ape the formats of other countries.

What I’d like to see is a format that isn’t so reliant on competitions. In fact, let’s just get rid of most of them altogether. Completely scrap the have/have-not silliness. Let the entire house vote on nominations, and make that the prime focus of Sunday’s episode. Keep the veto competition, and allow the winner to not only save a nominee but also put up a replacement for Wednesday’s show. As much as I don’t trust the American public to vote, I can see giving them the power to decide who they want to save for the Thursday eviction episode.

Let’s also revamp the diary room. Currently, it’s only used for narration purposes, and their semi-scripted, catchphrase-dependent commentary is getting more embarrassing every year. Is there really any purpose to hear the usual “xxxx just can’t win the most important HOH of the year” silliness?

I want the diary room to be more honest about what’s going on, and more timely. If two people have a disagreement, show them going to the diary room to talk to “Big Brother”. The public can handle chats that are longer than a couple of sentences to describe their thoughts about what just happened.

My ideas for casting is pretty easy. This may be a bit shocking to most critics of this season, but they were on the correct path this year. Either have an entirely new cast, or nothing but returnees. No mixing! No stunt casting of a relative, especially if tied to a public vote that gives them an unfair advantage. If “All-Stars” is the plan for next year, do so in an interesting matter. Why not something like people who never made jury? Or favorites versus villains?

As for twists, I have to say again that outside of the stunt casting they did a pretty good job this year. The MVP twist could have been great if Elissa didn’t have that advantage the first two weeks, and the lack of Pandora/DPOV added some legitimacy to what happened in the later parts of the series. You can’t have these types of gimmicks just to save a Grodner/fanbase favorite. Just because a favorite player was evicted, or there is unhappiness with the final three, is not a valid reason for a twist that questions the credibility of the show.

These are just a few of my thoughts about next season. What about you? Do you want some changes for next year? Share some ideas!

Do something like family member against family like survivor is doing this season. See if loved ones can take each other out. That would be great. I would also like to see another All-Star season as well and see how the players play after being away for a while like the people from the first 3 seasons battling it out and see how they fair now from the first time they played. That would be great.

Great news. I hope Allison Grodner gets hit by a bus on her way home from the wrap party. I agree with most of the article. I don't think America should play any part in voting out a HG. Then it becomes a popularity contest and not a game of strategy. The MVP idea is awful. Please God never again. The only thing America should vote on is silly stuff like food or punishments. I think BB Australia has a lot of good ideas with the exception of 6 noms. No twists or DPOV's. Keep the game pure.

There are some great ideas that people have posted. I thought that I would throw in a few to the mix.

Get rid of Have/Have Not. All it does is make the houseguests lethargic and sleep all of the time. Replace it with a weekly food competition to win food for the house, or take a page from BBUK and BBAUS, have a week long shopping task and if they pass, they get a larger budget...lose and they get a minor budget. They houseguests get together to choose the foods. If you want to see some house drama, the shopping tasks always get people riled up when it comes to food.

Do not allow houseguests to sleep during the day...period. If they do, wake them up. repeated violations should be punished.

Punishments for repeated talking about production or singing should be meted out. All houseguests should be punished, not the offenders. Take away their food for a day and have everyone eat slop.

Punishment for hate speech with a formal warning from the producers in the diary room for the first offence and removal from the game if it is repeated. The formal warnings or removal from the game would be shown on the CBS episodes.

Have a more age, demographic, and ethnic diverse cast and severely curtail recruits chosen for the cast. I feel this would draw more viewers if they can related to a particular houseguest that is a lot like themselves.

I would love for an "all-stars" next year where every first evicted houseguest from every season gets a second chance! Would suck for the first evicted though, haha. But it's work! 15 people, etc etc.

I think the jury house should get 24/7 feeds. How do they know what they are voting for at the end to win? I would like to see a segment of discussion each week from the jury house about what they are seeing on the feeds and game strategy talk.
I hate the have/have not. It just makes an unfair advantage at competitions.
I love the competitions. I would prefer more and not less.
There should never be two cameras in one room. We have seven main rooms and outside. That is what we should see on our screen. Even if they are just stationary. I want to know where everybody is at all times.
I like how someone spoke of hot water being rationed. After they get up then hot water will be allowed for 2 hours. After that then it is cold water. They need to get up and be active through the day.
Doesn't CBS own a news show? Would it really be so horrible to get a newspaper or news show in the house? It could possible give them something to talk about. We watch fish all the time because HGs start talking about production. If they don't have anything in common then they will go to production talk. Advertise for your own network for goodness sake.
Bring on the penalties. If you don't stop when production tells you to repeatedly or you flip off the camera or moon the camera that could mean a day of solitary confinement. That will hurt your game play so you will stop the BS right away. No turning over people's beds with no penalty at all. The BS with the luggage of an evicted houseguest being kicked around was wrong behavior and should be punished. I really missed the chum bath this year. bring on the losing penalties as well.
I hate the idea of the have not room because the next day they don't interact. If you want a have not room, make the lights come on every hour or have the sound of a baby crying. Get those babies that they use in high school to persuade children from having children. Make them get up in the night and make them turn the key to soothe the doll crying. Make the room hot or cold. But causing orthopedic pain so that they are disadvantage is not the way to go. It makes it boring for us to watch. Homeless people sleep better then the beds from this year.

How about a punishment, like so many HG's have to clean or cook instead of have nots do a have punishment. This way the house would not look like a dump like this year.

NO MORE SEX! Please do not allow house guests to have sex. So unbelievably disgusting allowing half the cameras most nights poised on the disgusting Amanda & McSkank (Ollie & April from seasons past) having sex. Uugh! Or at the very least no cameras on them please! I'm not a prude by a longshot...but really!

BB can be improved by making two important changes. The first one being..less stress, not more...HAVE NOTS is so stupid..unless you're looking for crazy and angry. Intentionally making people that way is kind of creepy, don't you think? They must think that's what we want. I think you get more interesting results when you get people drunk. Number two improvement is to cast more interesting people. People that are more intelligent, funny and wise. Age is not important .

I think Larry David should do the casting for BB. Certainly not AMERICA...do they really know what they want? They picked Ellissa as favorite. They really have had some good people in the past. Get their feedback.

Letting America vote = making 10-17yo girls in charge.

@matt.....RIGHT ON!!!!!

I haven't read all the replies so if this has been mentioned before SORRY..
I'd like to see a list of the comps the house guest will be doing...after the house guest go into the house put up a list...
that way I wouldn't feel like they(BB) have selected or created an event for a certain ones.
September 16, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterVikieJ
The HGs already know the comps they are going to have, it's production that times and fine tunes them to suit whoever they want to win various HOHs or VETOs.
