Play Nice!

There’s been a bit of an uproar on this site (and a few others) in recent days, particularly in the comments section. Rather than go through and respond to each of them individually, I thought I’d just throw out a little statement here...and then everybody that hates me can reply accordingly.

As I’ve always said, I never truly care who wins this show. I don’t root for anybody. However, I admittedly do root against certain individuals. I do root against stunt casting. I do root against returning players. Having said that, at the end of the day I still don’t care if they win. It’s the process that matters to me, not any specific person.

I also don’t care who others root for. Every person on every season has a fan base. Even the most wretched person has people rooting for them. Conversely, every player has people that root against them. There’s nothing wrong with that. How boring would it be if we ALL thought exactly alike?

My rants about “fans”, whether on this site or on our podcast, aren’t targeted towards the vast majority of viewers or feed watchers. We’re (almost) all adults here. There’s no reason why we can’t have serious conversations about our different opinions. Calm debates are fun!

It’s the unreasonable people that I have my issues with. It’s the “timeline trolls” - people who search the #bb15 timeline for any negative mention of certain people - that are ruining an otherwise fun season for me. Their replies are both predictable and, to use a favorite word of this season, “vile”. One is considered an evil person for not thinking like them. Who has so much time that they can actively search for people to scream obscenities at?

Along the same lines, the idea that I’m supposed to change my opinion to match the public is ludicrous. Whenever I see the word “bias”, I know that means nothing more than our opinions don’t match. Have we really come to the point where the only viewpoint a person is expected to hear is the one that matches their own? Again, how boring would that be?

Most of the dissension obviously centers around one specific person. Well, you’re all getting your wish as the floaters finally made a move this week. Somehow it’s been decided that I’ve been rooting for her this year. Oh yeah, rooting against another certain person means that I’m her biggest fan. I almost forgot.

It’s certainly not true, for me at least (we do have one admittedly unabashed fan on our show). Every show needs a villain, though, and she has perfectly played that role. She’s made some smart moves, and a LOT of bad moves, and has lasted much, much longer than I ever expected. You have to admit, though, that CBS would have had a hard time coming up with storylines these last few episodes without her antics.

We have just over two weeks left of the season, and only two more episodes of our podcast. Instead of the usual hatred in the comments, let’s try something different here. Who do you think will win this season? Not who you WANT to see win, but who appears to be the likely recipient of the check?

Honestly, Nothing that you say will affect these people Unfortunately, they are still going to bash whoever they want.

I think if Judd escapes eviction he will end up with the top prize. He has managed to avoid being offensive so far. I think emotions are running high with this cast and it may be a case of who's pissed people off the least and not who's played the best game. Although it would be difficult to name the best game player of this season. Gina Marie could end up being fan favorite for nominating Amanda & McCrae and breaking up the power couple.

I am sort of stumped as to who might win now. Before McCrae hooked up with Amanda I would have thought that he had the best chance at winning. After the feuds caused by Amanda I can't say that McCrae still has a chance to win. If he survives the Double Eviction along with Elissa then I would say that they are the two who have the best chance to win.

Scott - another insightful and needed post. I appreciate you trying to fight the good fight, even though it is doubtful the trolls will stop. You have to try though and for that I say thanks!

I think (not necessarily what I want) Andy will win. So far there have been many times where I thought "this is it, he's finally going to have to pick a side and the other side will be ready to get him out." No matter how many tight spots Andy has been in, he always seems to slither his way out. Even after he maneuvers through any number of precarious situations, he almost never is mentioned as an initial nominee or "target."

If Amanda goes to jury this week, and if she does not figure out how much Andy has been cheating on her, then I believe she will sway the jury to vote for Andy in the end. She has been loyal from the beginning and she will hold true to that until the very end.

Thanks again Scott for your efforts in addressing the people who are taking the fun out of Big Brother this year. If you get the attention of even one of those individuals, then this was worth it. It is also nice because there are people out here who are not blindly cheering for one certain individual while bashing anyone who doesn't. You are giving us a voice as well. Thank you!

At this point, it really become competition-based. What makes it hard to predict what happens in these last two weeks is the basic fact that all of these people aren't great at comps. GinaMarie only does well if it is a repetitive-type thing. Elissa only does well when it is an athletic-type comp AND her future depends on it. McCrae is only good at simple-task endurance (but was awful at baseball). Judd has anxiety issues so he's bad at all comps. Andy and Spencer are not really good at anything.

The second HOH on Thursday is clearly going to be a question thing, and it is anybody's game. Elissa almost has to win it to not be the second one out. If she doesn't, GM is eligible for the HOH comp that will be held after Thursday's episode, and that's bound to be a skill-type comp. Wouldn't it be a shocker to see her win again? While I hope that is not what happens, it wouldn't shock me.

This season is really winding down to an almost anything can happen finale. While I predict the feeds will be boring those last two weeks, it does make for the CBS episodes to be somewhat fun to watch. Plus, no matter who ends up in F2, I don't think the jury votes can be predicted. Will they vote personally or on gameplay? I believe some (Candice, Elissa, Amanda) will vote personally, but I do believe the rest won't. (Not a slam on those three, either.)

By the way, no matter who is left in the house, the feeds are always a bore the last couple of weeks. The game is basically over, the alliances and friendships have all been outed and/or solidified, and it becomes little more than rehashing. This weekend was the start of it. Take away Amanda and McCrae's destined-to-fail politicking, and you have the rest of the house going on and on about "who is this year's so-and-so"? I find that stuff boring, as I also do the card playing and stuff like that.

And Heather, thank you! Isn't it more fun to have an open conversation about the show without resorting to name calling and unfounded allegations? :)

Scott...if the show is NOT scripted and fixed.....and I've been reading all over the net that it is......I really have to give Grodner and her staff a failing grade on casting. This group has been insufferable. Sad to think that out of the thousands of people that apply, this gaggle of goofs was the best they could come up with.

I still believe the premise of the show is great.....if it's not fixed. I think it's only a good cast away from returning to early form. Time for CBS to come up with some new comps and new ideas. It has become, "expect the expected."

I've been a big brother fan for years but don't watch the feeds. I rely upon sites like these ( and fabulous podcasts) to give me the inside scoop. I usually stay away from comments and only hear of the "trolls". I've been fortunate to shield myself. That being said ( like in the nom ceremony...) how can anyone think this cast isn't the best in YEARS??? I haven't enjoyed watching this much since the original Janell, Howie, and Kaysar season. Ok maybe with evel dick... ;) thanks for not letting the negativity get you down and keeping people like me informed!

Wow. What. Wait. Are the bb viewers being blamed for ruining this season? Really? Ok, here's the thing, there are some really crazy people in this country. The Internet attracts a higher than average share of these nut bars because of its anonymity. BB casting knew what they were doing and they played with fire this year. Why is anybody surprised by the reaction of the viewing community? So naive. Putting the crazy suff like posting addresses of family members, etc, aside, There is lots of debate about how nasty previous HG's were and the fan reaction was never like it has been this year. But previous seasons were before Trevon Martin, before the news stories of Facebook bullying leading to suicides, before a supreme court ruling gutting the voters right act, before the GOP politics of obstruction. So naive.

Final 3 Prediction - Andy vs. Judd vs. GinaMarie

BB Winner Prediction - Andy over Judd 7-2

America's Choice - Elissa
September 2, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterwoodycorn44
I agree, totally, with everything you've said. As for the winner, I'm really not sure. Spencer, Judd or GinaMarie. I really hope GinaMarie can make it to the end and pull this off. I wasn't really on her side at the beginning but she has sure changed my mind! As for Andy, I think he is a snake. Hopefully they'll realize that and boot him out soon.

Hi -

This is what I don't want to happen, but I think it could...
After Amanda is gone, McCrae will perk up because he has to. Spencer and Judd have wanted an all male alliance from the beginning so they'll pull in McCrae. Andy is still loyal to Amanda so McCrae will have his support as well.
The four of them will eliminate Elissa (because they can't be 'guys' around her) and Gina Marie (because she's not male).
I hope Elissa and Gina Marie win once or twice so that foursome can't fully form.
But, if it does - i'd imagine a McCrae/Andy final two.
However, I'd prefer Judd wins in the end..

I don't like alliances that last from beginning to end. I like the idea of alliances forming and reforming every week depending on what each houseguest sees as their best interest at that moment. I also don't like alliances based on gender, cause that seems like a boring reason to ally with someone.

I'd also like to make a comment about stunt casting and returning players. I keep hearing people say things are 'fair' or 'unfair' But, isn't that the point of 'Big Brother'? In the novel 1984, Big Brother is a dictator. Dictators are known for making 'unfair' conditions for people to live in. it isn't 'fair' and nobody 'deserves' the treatment - but that's the interesting part - how do people adjust their strategy when they can't know what will happen from one day to the next? It shows people's adaptability. Life isn't always fair...that's why Big Brother isn't either. And I'm okay with it.

I think Spencer is the really devious one...he's the one who messed with the hat and blamed Candice, he told Amanda to throw the door open to maybe catch Elissa passing by. I think he really wants to live in a frat style big brother house.

And, I'm sorry for all the negative energy (understatement) that's going around the internet about this show. I don't often get involved because it is so negative. it seems like a waste of potentially useful energy. Oh - if only we could harness that power for good! :)

Take Care -

Vicky

I agree with most of what you are trying to say. The exception being the HG that are promoting racism and bullying. With bullying running rampant in our school systems we don't need it promoted in a reality game show. BB viewers are used to the lies and back stabbing as game play. This season took it to a whole new level. Considering all of this racism is at a time when we are celebrating Martin Luther Kings 50th anniversary march. It makes us look like we have taken 5 giant steps backwards.

With my favorites being ousted I am having a hard time staying involved while it's winding down. I guess Macrae would be my pick with JUDD being a close second. Without Amanda it's going to be really boring. The way CBS treated Aaryn just turned my stomach. I appreciate the podcasts and blogs. It's what keeps me sane. Thank you!!
September 2, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSrtx3
I think Andy will win. Maybe I'm biased because he was my pre-season pick, but I think he's played a good game so far. I don't see anyone trying to take him out in the next few evictions, so I think he has an excellent shot of making it to the very end. And I just think the jury members are going to want to give the money to him rather than whoever he ends up next to, because everyone else has bigger flaws (Judd got a second chance at the game, so I would think they wouldn't want to award him the big prize, Spencer is the perma-pawn super floater, McCrae got carried along by Amanda, Elissa had the MVP advantage, and also always talks about how rich she is and doesn't need the money, Gina Marie just kind of sucks).

But I don't know, even after watching this show for 10 years, I usually find myself surprised by the jury votes, and I have a very hard time predicting which way they will go.

And yes, calm debates ARE fun!

Hi Scott, thanks for the post. I agree with you on nearly everything. I would however like to see you guys call out Lala on the double standard that she does show each year. That's all, love the website and the podcast. Big fan.
September 2, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterhugh
I really feel, it's going to be between Andy and Spencer. I see Amanda gone this, along Mcrea or Elissa. Next week Elissa or mcrea, depending if these two get hoh. Then Gm, followed by Judd.
September 2, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterDominique
I totally agree with Hugh regarding Lala. I do however love, love her blog and dry witty sense of humor. I hardly ever agree with her but enjoy her point of view. Scott thanks for your comments today. They are very insightful. Thought you had left the planet. Thanks for coming back.

Scott, the podcasts that you do with Collette and the other guy (just kidding, Mike!) are the highlights of this season for me. The shows are well-planned, well produced, and packed with no-bs commentary. The nightly updates by Ash are unrivaled on the net in my opinion. The addition of John newbie contributions are a nice touch as well.

You should take it as a complement that the bulk of the commentary produced by this crew on Twitter, this site, Bitchy Big Brother, and in the podcasts, is simply too objective (for the most part) and thought-provoking for the average cellar-dwelling, multiple cat owning, twitter-trolling, recluse to appreciate. Believe me, there are plenty of other sites where they congregate and continuously celebrate their own self-righteous groupthink. Just please remember to let their petty, and dim-witted, criticisms roll off your back and take pride in the fact that sooo many of us who "get it" appreciate all that you are doing here.

I, for one, appreciate the efforts of all of you every day.

I don't usually comment, and don't watch the feeds, but follow this site for updates because in the past it has been a rare oasis offering thought-provoking questions and different viewpoints for respectful discussion. I'm sad to see some commenters taking things in a different direction. (I know this is several seasons back, but I found your site after HamsterDame joined your team from Silly Hamsters). Please know that there are still those of us who enjoy the calm debate and sharing of opinions!

As far as this season's cast goes, I have found it hard to root for anyone consistently. I appreciate those who play the game for what it is but the personal attacks, racist and bigoted remarks and actions this season went way beyond gameplay and made it tough to watch at times. Amanda could have played a good game but she went over the edge with the personal attacks and let her emotions get the best of her. Stunned to hear about HG families being threatened, etc. These individuals would find an outlet for their anger somewhere, but it's truly unfortunate that they take it to this level.

If Helen were still in the game, she would be my pick to win. Who will actually make it to the end? I think Andy has played a great social game and is in a strong position against anyone left in the final two. Spencer, while he has made some distasteful remarks, was on the block six + times and was never evicted. If he can explain that as part of a strategy then he could win, but it depends on who he's up against. I think only Andy or Judd (if the jury can overlook the fact that he was evicted) could beat Spencer.

Anyway, thanks again for the updates. The Night Owl updates from Ash have become a key part of my BB experience. it was a great idea to feature the newbie perspective, Target John added thorough analysis and it's nice to see how things come across to someone who hasn't been as immersed in past seasons. I also liked the "day in the life of..." posts this season, although I'd be interested to see house guests featured before their final days in the house. Finally, if there is a next season, I hope to see an end to returning/related houseguests and the unanimous votes; it's much more interesting when the HG's have to figure out how they think others are voting and the evictee is not a foregone conclusion by Thursday! Thanks!

At this point I think GM will win the game. I see her winning the final HOH, having to choose between Spencer and Judd, and taking Judd, her rational being Spencer has already won things. Between GM and Judd, I see GM winning.
September 3, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBig Brother Rat
I don't know what Scot has against GinaMarie but I think she is the best player in the game. (I just threw up a little) OK I can't fake caring about any of the players and yes it's a TV show and it gets tweaked for best ratings performance but all in all it's a OK show and we all watch. Isn't that the goal of CBS? This cast isn't as bad as the nerd herd year with all the HOH room praying and the most boring winner EVER...don't you think? Any way tards will be tards. As for who wins? I say who cares. I predict most people will not like the winner and in six months I won't remember anyone who was on the show.

ps. The Night Owl ROCKS!!!!
