Big Brother Season 16, Episode 21 Recap (Or Lack Of)

I've wrestled with my brain all day long about this week's Big Brother episodes. If you have followed this site, or listened to last night's contentious Big Brother Gossip Show (and why haven't you?), you understand that what should have been a great week of feeds and broadcasts has been undermined by a production crew that will do anything and everything to appeal to a younger audience that has never been attracted to the show.

Yes, I'm talking about this year's show pony, Frankie Grande. This week featured the best feeds of the season, commencing with the last minute decision on Wednesday night to keep Zach after all. After the HOH comp on Thursday, Frankie burst in on Nicole and Christine to tell them to put up the four boys. She ran to Zach, who then told each of the boys. This led to a desire to immediately go after Frankie, and Caleb volunteered to go on the block with him to ensure they lost the Battle of the Block.

The hilarity of beastmode taking a seat during the competition would have made tonight's show the best ever. CBS would have none of that, though, and conspired with Frankie to make a big reveal about his "famous" one-hit wonder, "megastar" sister. Gross. Us conspiracy buffs also firmly believe that the combo of this plot, along with a long-delayed competition that culminated with a BOB that house guests have said was EASIER to win solo than with a partner, is a complete set up to ensure Frankie's safety.

Tonight's show will be edited in a way that will make you believe that Frankie came up with the idea to reveal his "secrets". He's already been given credit for acts that Derrick and others actually made, and tonight is bound to be pure fiction. Even worse will be Wednesday's episode, as he pulls the boys (and then the girls) aside to tell his story. Anything semi-negative (or non-fabulous) will be edited out, including the anger many stated afterwards. They definitely won't show Frankie saying he's going to sic his sister's online following on Nicole for actually saying something negative about him. It's going to be a nightmare.

I'm beyond offended by all of this, and because of this I'm boycotting tonight and Wednesday's broadcasts. I really don't want the ratings to suffer, but something has to be done to let the network know that we're tired of stunt casting. We're tired of fictional edits. We're sick that the show we love has been turned into the type of horribly-edited trash we usually witness on lower-tiered cable channels. Big Brother is supposed to be a social experiment; not a close cousin to the likes of Honey Boo Boo or Duck Dynasty.

If you do view tonight's episode, more power to you. I hope you enjoy it. But if you're a loyal Big Brother fanatic, I invite you to change the channel tonight to something...anything else.

FINALLY! You get why I stopped watching 2 years ago, and WHY I nearly gave up on BBUK this season!
Production THINKS they know what we want to see, and after 15 season, you'd think they'd get a grip on it.
Now more than ever, it's time for Weird Al Grodner to step aside.
She's lost the plot and her FORMER penchant for knowing what we like to view and keeping an honest edit going.
Every horse gets put out to pasture. There's no reason why Grodner should still be around. She's been corrupted since her golden boy Jeff and golden girl Rachel walked through those doors, and we STILL have to see those nasty mugs.
Welcome to the club, Scott.
It took you long enough.
There's plenty of room on the COUCH! :D (Pun intended)

Thanks, Doc!

You're right about Jeff and Rachel. I actually had a convo with a former house guest where he pinpointed the Jeff/Jordan coupling as the moment the show took a downturn. They no longer cast for potential players. They cast to appease the cat ladies. Even teh so-called "superfans" such as Nicole are not strategic superfans. They're the types that fall in love with the young, attractive males of the cast and create t-shirts and cutesy names to follow them all season long.

They know the majority of BB fans will stay because society has short term memory loss. 15 minutes later it's all forgiven. The manipulation this time is beyond a coincidence. I always thought people put too much into odd things that happen in the house but through all these seasons I have gone from skeptic to a believer. This past week should remove all doubt. Some things on the past seemed minor and could possibly be explained away but in this case they were woken up in the morning because the BOB was happening shortly. That turned into it happening 12 hours later. Douchebagmode cowboy came out of the DR saying how "they" were excited about his plan(clearly the they is production). Now we know that all changed and now the house that was unified to get Frankie out now loves him again. I won't be watching either.

Okay, I get that you are upset, but CBS does not care if you watch. The only people you are hurting are those of us who enjoy reading your blog.

If you truly want to boycott, stop getting the feeds and stop offering the feeds through this site. That would seem to send a message.
August 10, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterChloe
If I boycott it will NOT be because of Frankie...It will be because of Derricks abusive antics with Victoria in the Beehive Room this morning! He is pathetic scum and should be taken off of the show! It was horrific the way he went on at her. She was verbally and mentally raped!!!

I am very frustrated with Frankie's over dramatized reveal he is such a loser who cares who your sister is. I am getting super annoyed with this season and may stop watching all together.
August 10, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDeanna
I think that true BB fans should go on a 2 weeks strike as we all know that the demographic that they are trying to appeal to do not watch tv and as soon as some other celebrity cousin/uncle/ex babysitter drama hits the twitterverse, the "fans" of Frankie and his one hit wonder sister will move on. So yes the ratings do need to tank so the stunt casting does cost them, that is the only thing that will make them take notice.

2 weeks is long enough to make some serious skid marks in the CBS advertising board room and long enough to be more than a one off blip to be ignored.

I have watch every episode of every season of Big Brother. I am a huge fan and give up everything so that I never miss an episode. In my personal opinion, last year was the WORSE ever season.

I was really happy with this season EXCEPT for this BS with Frankie this week. They should of NEVER casted a celebrity sibling in the show. Furthermore, I 100% agree with you that production made a mess of things this week and it is obvious to the die hard BB fans all over the world that production manipulated things so that Frankie would win BOTB. Shameful and I believe the show has lost viewers over it as many have been ranting on social media for 2 days about it, including me.

This is NOT supposed to be a "scripted" television show at all. If production is going to manipulate things so that the person they want to win...does...I am gone. If production wants to manipulate things so that a player stays longer, I am gone. I am NOT watching the show for manipulation and junk.

I am jumping on the 2 show boycott wagon right along with you. Perhaps I will even turn off the Live Feeds during the next few days too. It just isn't right what CBS and the Production Crew is doing. They think the fans are stupid or something.

Finally, I could give a rat's ass about Ariana Grande and for Frankie to verbally threaten that her fans will be all over another house guest is just plain wrong.

I am amazed and happy to see that I am not alone. I feel like we are being ripped off by productions interference.

It was hysterical watching the whole thing unfold on the live feeds.
Frankie Grande & Christine were exposed during the game by the supposed villain, Zach.

When Caleb started talking and making sense we (Jokers live feed watchers) were in shock. Then when told everyone his plan to blow the bob, production had to stop him.

Its sad that they will let him use his so-call celebrity to alter the results of the comps.

We didn't say the feed recaps were stopping (although Ash might decide to take a break - that is her call) - just the Show recaps. We usually know what happens in every TV show anyways. Tonight we get to see the BoB and find out how CBS seems to have rigged it so a single player had a better chance than two - and see if they show Caleb asking to play and being denied. All in all there won't be much learned in tonight's show.

I have watched BB since season 1 and love it, I loved the underdog in the season. Last season I really started to believe the tin hat people. I totally disliked Andy and I totally dislike Frankie wasn't sure about him at first but he is scum however that said I would like to make my own decisions not have CBS make them for me. I like the competitors not the floaters even though the rat says its a strategy. I want to see the comps that's why I get the feeds although next year may be monthly just to see. Maybe CBS won't care but if enough people don't watch they will. I won't be watching I just watch for the comps and the DRs the rest I can see on the feeds maybe we (the feeders) should control 1/2 the vote. and get a vote at the end beside AF vote.

There have been plenty of moments when I have been outraged and po'd by BB production interference but I think you take things too seriously to say that BB is a pure social experiment. Yeh for the purist feed watchers it is. But it's also mass flipping tv entertainment. If it weren't it wouldn't have lasted so long on television. I've watched every season and yes, it's certainly been about game play for me. But I can't deny the moments of sheer entertainment for the sake of entertainment BB has provided nor the moments of rooting for and falling in love with certain endearing, magical, sweet, dumb, crazy, very human people whether they are embodying the great social experiment or not. I agree 100% with what you've said about all this Frankie strawberry shortcake stuff but I wouldn't offer Jeff and Jordan's heads on a plate back to you carnivores for anything (Rachel you can have). And as for Zach, I haven't loved a character/real human this much since Jeff & Jordan. What a flipping awesome, sweet, crazy watchable kid.

I agree with you Chloe.

As a BB superfan myself, I can and do respect the opinions of everyone. I get it. Having said that, ATEOTD, I pay to see a reality "Show", how CBS chooses to spin it after all that is said and done in 60 minutes is a hard job in itself. The fact that Frankie is an entertainer is irrelevant to me, and actually I enjoy his tactics. That it is possible that Production tailors it does not surprise me at all, nor does it make me want to stop watching the "show". Every year, people complain about this very same thing. Can't please everyone all the time. Bottom line is simple...we either stop watching and paying, turn the channel, or jump on board. Myself...I choose to watch the show!

Sorry, but I had to jump in here with my own opinion.

This is just a few moments not in order. I believe you need to go further back for when the fix was in. On dani/dick season dick had just returned from the dr & he and dani were going into a bedroom when dick said the dr said we have to evict ? (Can't remember his name) but it was different from the hg they had planned to evict & who coincidentally was set with other hg's to evict dick. It then cut to fish/flames. The hg dick said the dr told him to evict WAS evicted w/o further discussion from the hg's and the idea of evicting dick never came up again.(?) All the live feeders were very aware of what happened. It was the subject of many conversations in the chat rooms.Even the press talked about the show being fixed at the time.Next we have the final challenge on all stars ( you remember Dr Will wouldn't come on unless boogie was on) was Janie v boogie. The comp was all upper body. Everyone knows even a awesome player like Janelle would have a hard time because of being a woman. Boogie sailed thru the comp like he was walking & Janelle struggled with all her might. Only to have physiology & production be her enemy. Boogie went on to win a sports car and the 500g. This is not sour grapes it was perfectly clear all season who the producers wanted to win. All season Will & boogie broke 1 after another rules w/o punishment. It was no surprise to any of us live feeders who won. We called it only 2 weeks in. This was widely known to all live feeders. Does any of what's happening surprise me? Not in the least. There have been many reference's by hg's about things they shouldn't know. Derrick saying to the camera, OK you will FINALLY get what you want, a split vote. Now how would he know that we have complained for so long that he would include the word finally? There is so much more. This was just a couple of incidents that were loudly talked about.

As a person who has watched Big Brother since season 1, & spent countless hours watching live feeds. I feel this game has lost it's appeal, and focuses too much on players like Frankie and Elissa. It seems the past few seasons we see alliances break apart as quickly as they form. I hate that evictions are almost always "voting with the house". Remember the days of people voting for what was best for their game? We never see split votes anymore. I feel bad for a player like Donny (who is doing good) is an outcast cause he hasn't chosen an exploding alliance. He is playing his own game. Like them or not, Evel Dick, Dr. Will, and Dan played good games, and made for good tv. We need to see a bigger variety of personalities, and less production influence. I understand that it is a tv show, but I feel there was less production influence in the beginning. Don't get me wrong, I love this show. I love this game. I just feel there has been some lackluster the past few seasons.

Wait so a "reality show" called big brother is using their power to exercise total control over the show and the houseguest lives. How dare they!! Their treachery is straight out of a George Orwell book. Your righteous indignation is laughable and calling a "reality show" a social experience even more so. There is no such thing as a social experience or reality when it comes to these heavily edited network produce shows. Games are staged, guest do take after take in the DR till Big Brother gets what they want. This is as much of a social experience as Frankie is a mogul.

most of us know that reality shows and news are cut, sliced and leaned this and way for entertainment value and high ratings. we viewers are not is just for fun and is fluff. do not take it so seriously!

People seem to be misinterpreting what I wrote earlier. I'm not organizing a formal boycot of the episode, week, or season. I'm semi-known for writing recaps of the episodes, and since the big reveal on Frdiay night I've been dreading tonight and Wednesday's episodes. Since I try to recap every episode, I thought that I would explain why I'm not watching these two episodes. In doing so, I sort of gave a recap of what should have been shown instead of what CBS is blatantly scripting this year.

Yes, there have been many other instances over the years of production interference. As somebody who was enthralled by the feeds from Wednesday night to Friday afternoon, my rage grew as it became clearer and clearer the fix was in for Frankie to stage his big reveal that night. The fact that he was worried about BBAD times and camera angles made it even worse for me. Would you readers of this site really like it more if I wrote a "real" recap that was little more than curse words? Ok, some of you bastards would. :)

Righteous indignation? Oh Mindblown, you're just being a silly goose here. To borrow a phrase I've heard more than once today, if you don't like my commentary change the website. *Kisses*

To "Mind Blown" - Back in the day reality TV was a bit different and Big Brother was considered a "Social experiment." However over the years everything has changed and evolved for the worse. Big Brother has become trash like the rest of the reality TV shows. For long time fans who remember the ol days it is a hard pill to swallow. It used to be about regular people in a fish out of water experience who needed to use their brains and bodies to overcome real life chess game. Now it's famewhores promoting their careers of self promotion vomiting instructions given to them by production. I commend the stand against the CBS episodes and will partake as well. I'm sick of watching the feeds and seeing one thing and then watching CBS sew a completely different story together from it.

I moved to a new town last month and did not have much time to watch the feeds. Thank goodness for the Big Brother Gossip podcast, as I am able to keep track with what is going on this season.

I agree with Dr. Detroit. He keeps asking me why I keep watching. What I learned with my move is that I didn't miss Big Brother as much as I thought I would. I have hardly watched the feeds at all. The Mucho Frankie Grande stunt casting is the final straw for me. I will keep following this season, because Zach is entertaining and Derrick is playing a decent game. But this season will be my last. BBUK and BBAU are far better shows and worth the effort to go to the trouble following them.

To close, I think it is absolutely hilarious that the Sunday episode with the Frankie unicorn and glitter reveal is delayed airing until 10pm EDT because the PGA Championship ran way long! Serves CBS and production right for trying to use stunt casting to get ratings numbers from followers of Ariana Grande, who I never heard of before Big Brother started.
