Big Brother Season 16, Episode 21 Recap (Or Lack Of)

I've wrestled with my brain all day long about this week's Big Brother episodes. If you have followed this site, or listened to last night's contentious Big Brother Gossip Show (and why haven't you?), you understand that what should have been a great week of feeds and broadcasts has been undermined by a production crew that will do anything and everything to appeal to a younger audience that has never been attracted to the show.

Yes, I'm talking about this year's show pony, Frankie Grande. This week featured the best feeds of the season, commencing with the last minute decision on Wednesday night to keep Zach after all. After the HOH comp on Thursday, Frankie burst in on Nicole and Christine to tell them to put up the four boys. She ran to Zach, who then told each of the boys. This led to a desire to immediately go after Frankie, and Caleb volunteered to go on the block with him to ensure they lost the Battle of the Block.

The hilarity of beastmode taking a seat during the competition would have made tonight's show the best ever. CBS would have none of that, though, and conspired with Frankie to make a big reveal about his "famous" one-hit wonder, "megastar" sister. Gross. Us conspiracy buffs also firmly believe that the combo of this plot, along with a long-delayed competition that culminated with a BOB that house guests have said was EASIER to win solo than with a partner, is a complete set up to ensure Frankie's safety.

Tonight's show will be edited in a way that will make you believe that Frankie came up with the idea to reveal his "secrets". He's already been given credit for acts that Derrick and others actually made, and tonight is bound to be pure fiction. Even worse will be Wednesday's episode, as he pulls the boys (and then the girls) aside to tell his story. Anything semi-negative (or non-fabulous) will be edited out, including the anger many stated afterwards. They definitely won't show Frankie saying he's going to sic his sister's online following on Nicole for actually saying something negative about him. It's going to be a nightmare.

I'm beyond offended by all of this, and because of this I'm boycotting tonight and Wednesday's broadcasts. I really don't want the ratings to suffer, but something has to be done to let the network know that we're tired of stunt casting. We're tired of fictional edits. We're sick that the show we love has been turned into the type of horribly-edited trash we usually witness on lower-tiered cable channels. Big Brother is supposed to be a social experiment; not a close cousin to the likes of Honey Boo Boo or Duck Dynasty.

If you do view tonight's episode, more power to you. I hope you enjoy it. But if you're a loyal Big Brother fanatic, I invite you to change the channel tonight to something...anything else.

The Night Owl - Saturday Night

Zach won the veto!!!  I'm super excited that Zach gets to enjoy at least the rest of the week in safety before he goes back up on the block. After being the most defeated I've ever seen him earlier in the day and being named a have not along with Donny, both he and Donny agreed that they were ready to leave the house because they felt alone in the game.  But, then Zach won the OTEV Veto competition and that seemed to put the wind back in his sails.

Almost immediately after the feeds came back from the competition, Frankie started sucking up to Zach.  Zach let him this time and actually talked back to him.  Zach agreed to "take it slow and not trust him completely for now, but not to put him on the block" and Frankie tried to tell Zach he was no longer his target and that he didn't do most of the stuff that Zach thought he did.

Luckily, Victoria has gone from being unknown on the feeds to the voice of reason lately.  She got ahold of Zach pretty quickly after his talk with Frankie and told him NOT to trust Frankie.  She told him it wasn't just the past week that Frankie had been going after him.  Victoria told Zach she has had his back from the very beginning, but that he really needs to not trust Frankie.  She made a lot of sense...but then..

Zach's mouth is going to either kill his game completely or give me a heart attack before the season is over. He decided to lay out his entire game to Victoria and told her about The Detonators and about how much he had trusted Frankie and how stupid he feels now and how over he felt like his game was until he won the veto.

None of this was OK with Victoria who thought that she was Derrick's only final 2 deal.  She was extremely upset to hear that he had been in alliance she did not know about with Christine.  She started crying and Nicole comforted her about it for a while and confirmed to her that the alliance was real and filled in some of the details for her.  She told Victoria not to necessarily trust the people that she trusts and that she needs to be more careful, but that Derrick really does have her back.

Victoria then went back to talk to Zach some more about how upset she was about the situation.  Zach told her that Derrick really does have her back.  He told her that he was the one that started The Detonators and that Derrick had merely said "yes" to it because you always say yes when someone proposes a deal to you.  He told her that they need to trust Derrick and Cody moving forward and that she can't let this get her upset, but that she also CANNOT tell Derrick that he told her about the alliance because he will be dead if Derrick finds out.  She agreed not to tell Derrick, or that if she did bring it up she would say Nicole told her.

However, none of that really mattered because Cody and Nicole were talking in the other room and after telling Cody that she wanted to work with him, she also told him that Zach told Victoria about The Detonators and now Victoria doesn't trust Derrick anymore.  We all know that Cody will run and find Derrick to tell him about that as soon as he gets the chance.

Zach came into the room with Nicole, Cody, and Victoria and thus far everything has been silliness for the most part.  Zach riffed some love poems to Victoria while wearing his have not attire: A combination of an HOH robe, crown, many sweaters, and mittens on his hands.  He also told Cody, Nicole, and Victoria that if he wins HOH this coming week, he wants to put up Frankie and Christine right next to each other.

Meanwhile, up in the HOH room, Christine and Frankie were spending al their time talking about how stupid Zach really is and about how famous and awesome Frankie is. (gags)

Everyone is still awake and joking around, but I'm going to call it an early night as I don't see anything super game changing happening tonight.  Derrick will inevitably find out about Zach/Victoria from Cody at some point tonight and that will make Derrick want Zach out again, but he can't really do anything about it this week, so it won't make a whole lot of difference for the moment.

Right now Victoria is the expected re-nom when Zach pulls himself off the block, and things don't look good for Donny.  A lot can change before the ceremony on Monday, but as of now it looks like Donny will be going home.  Derrick and Cody want to keep Victoria around as their goat and Zach will vote with them to keep Victoria as she has always voted to keep him.  Frankie says he wants to keep Donny for now, but Nicole will likely vote with Derrick as they have both agreed that keeping Victoria around as a vote is better for them.

I feel super bad for Donny.  He has really played his heart out in competitions and usually won when he needed to, but you can only be on the block so many times before you lose one.  The upside for Donny fans is that (while I hate revive a hamster) he will have a good chance of being the one brought back if he doesn't have to battle Frankie for it..and even then, Donny may win.  But it's a long way until Monday and even longer until Thursday, so we shall see how things unfold between now and then.  I'm still crazy frustrated with the Frankie situation on the feeds, but at least a little hopeful since most of the HGs really want him out of there now and are gunning for him if he does not win HOH. As always you guys can follow me on twitter @ashes2ashes13 for more overnight feed updates.  Until tomorrow night...

Big Brother Gossip Show #408: Media Mogul

It was quite a night. Two recording devices, two computer breakdowns, and lots of audio dropouts.

Yet we made it through the night with a super-sized show that covered Zach's resurrection, a dramatic blindside, lots of backstabbing, and Frankie's outting of his supposedly glamorous life as a "media mogul".

It may take quite some time to get through all of this episode, but every minute is chock full of info. Grab this from the usual sources, such as iTunes or Stitcher, or...

A very special thanks goes out to my two wonderful cohosts, Colette Lalla and Mike, and also to Ash for her assistance in grabbing audio clips!

The Night Owl - Friday Night

Ok, tonight was a frustrating night for me on the feeds, but I'm going to try to give you guys the basic rundown of what happened.

As expected, Christine nominated Zach and Donny. Nicole nominated Caleb and Frankie.  All day long we waited and waited and waited and waited for the BOB to be played and Caleb talked more and more about what he was going to do to throw the comp so they could finally get Frankie out of the house.  They all speculated that Caleb throwing it would for sure work because all of the BOB comps for the most part have required some kind of team effort.

Finally shortly before BBAD was supposed to come on, the comp started (speculate as you will as to whether the comp was changed or not. I know I'm questioning it.)  When the feeds returned after the BOB, Caleb had either been removed, opted out of  the comp or just sat on the sidelines and threw it? (I'm unclear on what exactly happened with Caleb as the stories keep changing). Sometimes Caleb says "I couldn't re-enter and play" and sometimes he says "I didn't re-enter and play." I do know that Frankie played by himself and won it.  Caleb gets the benefits of a prize to get to go to a game outside the house with Frankie and he also has safety from the block, so I'm guesing he just sat on the sidelines and didn't do anything rather than removal from the competition.  Derrick made a statement that he didn't think it was fair that they let Frankie play it by himself since this was a comp that was easier to win alone, so that's where my confusion comes in.  Anyway, this leaves Christine as the HOH and Zach and Donny on the block with Zach as Christine's target...AGAIN.

It was announced by CBS via Twitter that Frankie was going to make some kind of announcement possibly having to do with Ariana Grande on BBAD/TVGN, but when the feeds first returned, Zach and Frankie were screaming at each other.  Zach was basically nailing Frankie to the wall for all the bullshit he has pulled and lies he told about him and for trying to get him evicted the last week (though he doesn't know it's really been the whole game.)  Frankie kept going back to "I need to hold this conference and tell you guys everything so that you understand WHY all this happened."  He told Zach that he would have production lock him in a room if he had to so that Frankie could go and hold court with the other boys.  Zach told him he couldn't do that, and Frankie said, "Oh yes I can if I tell them what I'm about to tell you guys."  I seriously get nauseous just writing about his arrogance.

Eventually Frankie coerced Zach, Cody, Derrick, and Caleb into the Fire room so that he could "make his confession"... We all knew what was coming.  He had been hinting about letting people know who his sister is all day long, and that's what it was.  He started off with "I've been lying to you all this whole game. I'm not who I say I am.  I'm an inet mogul, a  Youtube star who has millions of followers, and my sister is a famous pop star. Oh..and by the way, I'm playing this game for a charity to build schools in Africa."  Cody and Derrick were pretty uninterested in who Frankie is and more interested in what kind of confession he was going to make.  The two of them and Zach also started calling Frankie on a lot of his lies and pitting them against each other, and some he admitted to, but always with the excuse of "It's only been since my Grandfather died that I went crazy and I just lost my mind over it and lost it in the game."  Now we all know that Frankie has been playing this way the ENTIRE time and trying to get Zach out and pit the guys against each other, but according to him....they should blame the death of his Grandfather.  (honestly..I just can't...)

Zach was completely unimpressed and said nothing, denied Frankie a hug and refused to speak to him.  Cody, and Derrick kind of grudgingly hugged him and told him it was ok and they just have to move forward from there.  Caleb was then interested in whether or not Frankie would get him studio time with Justin Bieber.

Then Frankie went off to tell the girls.  Victoria made a shocked face reminiscent of Dani M when Shane was evicted, Christine was all giddy and excited about it, and Nicole decided that she felt terrible and started crying and saying that she would never have nominated Ariana Grande's brother.  This carried on for a long while as Nicole continually apologized for nominating him and worried about how bad she looks to Ariana Grande in her DRs..  (again...I just can't..)

Derrick stayed back in the fire room to pep talk Zach and see if he was ok.  He tried to convince him that everything was going to be ok this week as long as Donny doesn't win veto and put up he or Cody.  He told him to try and win the veto and take himself off, but that even if he doesn't, things are not hopeless. Zach countered with the fact that just an hour ago everyone hated Frankie but now everyone is sucking his dick (which was true) and then said "Plus, he's playing for a charity in Africa...what am I even doing here?"  Derrick told Zach that he didn't want to hear the crap from Victoria about how famous Frankie is and that he doesn't care who Frankie is outside of the game, he is there for himself and refuses to believe that he can't win it anyway.  They discussed the fact that Frankie already has America's Favorite Player ($25k) locked down, but that he isn't guaranteed final 2.  I'm sure somewhere in Derrick's head he was also thinking about the Team America money and comprehending WHY Frankie had been voted into Team America.

Ultimately Zach stayed pretty defeated and continued avoiding Frankie. I really can't say I blame him.

Frankie decided that he would sleep in the HOH room with Christine (shocker) since he is no longer a have not.  He told Cody that he would try to work on getting her to backdoor Nicole instead of putting one of them up if Donny wins veto and that he was sure Zach would come around.  He said he has no interest in working with the girls now and he is all back in with the boys.

So he trotted off to the HOH room where Nicole and Christine had been promising each other to work together again. Nicole still doesn't trust Christine and Frankie though, so I believe she is just trying to avoid being backdoored.  Frankie of course did NOT try to get Nicole backdoored, but instead giggled with Christine about how they need to get Zach out this week.  Christine wants Donny to win veto so she can put up Victoria and then have Frankie, Nicole, and Donny vote out Zach and make it a tie that she gets to break and send Zach packing.

The main problem with Christine's plan is that Nicole has already told Cody that she is voting to keep Zach if he is still on the block, and Donny will likely vote Victoria out and Victoria does nothing for his game.  Plus Donny likes Zach and enjoys his company and his character.  So Christine may or may not get her way depending on how things go after the vet and if and who the replacement nominee may be.

While Frankie was talking to Christine he spouted off a bunch of other things about himself and the night.  He said he can't wait for his epic TV moment where he wins the BOB all by himself.  I actually have no doubt that CBS will paint him to be some kind of hero underdog on that one even though all the other HGs agree it was a much easier comp to work by yourself and Derrick doesn't even believe he should have been able to play it alone with Zach and Donny had to try and do it as a pair.

He also said that Caleb now thinks he is Jesus because of who he is, and some other nonsenes about this being the greatest night of his life because of how popular he is in the house now.

After he was done talking to Christine about getting Zach out, Frankie went downstairs to the Have Not room where Cody and Zach were talking so he could tell them that Christine was on the verge of backdooring Nicole and that she nodded and said she would probably do it.  This is of course completely false and kind of hysterical if you jump back to a few hours earlier when Frankie told everyone that the lies were eating him alive and he was done with it all and was just going to play as his normal sweet and honest self now. Cody listened and was codial to him about it. Zach refused to even look up at Frankie while he was in the room.

Currently Cody is working on trying to get Zach to feel less defeated and telling him that he isn't going home this week unless a lot of strange things fall into place.  He is pep talking him to try and currently be civil with Frankie so he can get his vote (yeah right) and to go out and try to win veto today.  Cody also mentioned that he actually doesn't want Nicole to be the one to go on the block next to Zach if Donny wins veto.  He would rather it be Victoria since Nicole supposedly hates Christine and Frankie and wants to get them out.

Derrick is comforting Victoria who is a crying mess both over the fact that she has said mean things about Ariana Grande's brother and also because she still wants Frankie to be the target because she wants to win the money even if he IS doing it for charity.

So that's where things stand now.  The veto comp should be played today and Zach really needs to win it if he wants to assure his safety in the game.  He  may be in trouble otherwise.  If he DOES win Veto, I am not sure if Donny or Victoria will be the one voted out.  Derrick has been working a little more with Donny lately and Donny's target has almost always been Frankie, so there is a good chance he would stay even if he doesn't win the veto as the guys need people who are willing to put Frankie up and out if they want any chance of him not making it to the end. Not that he won't return even if they evict him since revive a hamster is still coming.

Hopefully today's veto comp will yield some interesting results and there will be something other than The Frankie Show going on by tomorrow night.  I of course am rooting for Zach to win, but you knew that already.  As always, you guys can follow me on twitter @ashes2ashes13 for more overnight feed updates.  Until tomorrow night..
