The Night Owl

The Big Brother Gossip website and CBS live feeds are both having issues tonight, so make of this blog what you will.  Half the night the feeds were not working, and half of the night the sound was out on 1/2 of them.  I will try to convey the basics and what I learned though. I am also unable to upload pictures, so sorry for the lack of those.

When I first got my feeds working tonight, all the HGs were gathered in the living room in the midst of a fashion show (yawn).  Helen won and was crowned with a fuzzy pink kitten hat.  After this the HGs broke off into little groups in different places.

16 HGs is a LOT of people to try and follow, so I am still completely fuzzy on the details of who is aligned with who.  Here is what I know:  McCrae is HOH.  He has nominated Candice and Jessie.  He seems to have an alliance with Nick and possibly Howard, Jeremy, and Spencer.  The have nots are Andy, Elissa, Judd, Howard, and Helen.  We do not know who the MVP is yet, but a lot of the HGs, along with the rest of the world, are pretty sure it will be Elissa.  AAryn is positive it will be Elissa and that she will be the one nominated. I think they must have had a confrontation of some sort before the feeds came on.  A lot of the girls are really interested in the idea of getting Elissa out, but are pretty sure it won't happen this week. McCrae and Judd had a discussion about wanting to keep Elissa around so that there would be a big target in the house.  Obviously we all know production would never let her go out this soon.  They also all seem to either by noticing or by hearing it realize that she is Rachel's sister.  The HGs have been on lockdown all night, which leads me to believe they are likely playing POV tomorrow/today.

There are crazy romance, couples, and love triangles everywhere.  Aaryn and David already seem to be a full on couple.  Jessie (who I despise already) spent most of her night not only whining about being nominated, but whining about how Jeremy (who apparently at one point showed some interest in her) was now flirting with and laying in the same bed with Kaitlin.  She spent a good hour or more telling Jeremy how she felt about him showing Kaitlin attention.  Kaitlin gives as good as she gets and spent a good portion of the night complaining about Jessie and Jessie's relationship with Jeremy. Jessie's insecurities really started hanging out when she tried to talk to several other HGs about being nominated and she really seemed to be losing it.  I'm hoping for a full on meltdown very soon.

What I got from Candice is that she talks LOUD and she talks a LOT...to EVERYONE.  She spent most of the night talking about everyone to everyone else.  I have no idea where her true loyalty lies at this point.  She does seem to be closer to Jessie than to the other girls she was talking to though.

I could see, but couldn't hear much of anything from Andy, Judd, Nick, McCrae, Elissa (small blessings), or Howard, so I can only tell you that it was obvious that they were doing some gaming, but I have no idea what they were saying.

I'm actually really loving this cast so far.  I only loathe Jessie, Elissa, David, and Jeremy so far.  That's pretty good out of a cast of 16.  I'm loving McCrae and I am happy for him winning HOH. This is the first time in a long time that I've liked the first HOH.  I also still like Nick.  He shows promise as a gamer, he is pretty smart (so far anyway), and he was the last one hanging in the HOH comp with McCrae. I like Andy a lot from what I have seen of him, but that was very little tonight.  What did you all think of the first episode? Who are your early favorites?  Welcome to BB 15!!!

Hopefully tomorrow night more of the bugs will be worked out and I can give you all a more thorough rundown of everything that has happened.  I also tweeted pretty much every ridiculous thought in my head about what I saw (including pics of GinaMarie with a tampon up her nose) @ashes2ashes13 if you want to read through that nonsense.

Scott The Media Whore

As I mentioned on Saturday night's Big Brother Gossip Show, I now have a side gig as a music writer for the Argus Leader in my hometown of Sioux Falls. The paper, part of the Gannett chain, has a daily online video talk show, hosted by my old friend, Patrick Lalley. Today at 4 pm ET, I will be on as a guest to talk about this site, the Big Brother Gossip Show, and a sneak preview of sorts of the upcoming season of Big Brother.

Join us at argusleader.com and toss a question or two in the chat, or take a look at the archived version that will be available shortly after airing.

Scott's Initial Impressions - Elissa

 Elissa Slater (Reilly), 27

Hometown: Concord, N.C.

Current City: Kannapolis, N.C.

Nutritionist

I’ve put this one off as long as possible, and I’d still rather not endure it.

Why oh why does Grodner and her minions think we need to have a Reilly family member every season? It’s bad enough that we’ve had Rachel for two full seasons, plus other appearances AND Amazing Race. Not to mention her Skype-loving husband. It’s disgusting, and I feel dirty whenever I see any of them.

Now I must admit that a relative is a bit of a step better than a returning player. I do want all newbies, and technically this horrific human is in that category. But but but...I still don’t have to like it.

So here we go. Five seconds in my eardrums break. She has the Reilly laugh. In fact, her laugh goes beyond that ugly caterwaul. Oh Lord, what have I done to cause me this pain and suffering?

It’s not just her laugh. Even her talking voice is more annoying than her sister...but it’s clear they’re sisters. The same sort of enunciation, and the same attempt to hide her southern drawl.

She says she isn’t going to tell the house that she’s Rachel’s sister, but anybody with any knowledge of the show is going to immediately jump on it. Plus, isn’t she in the TV wedding?

The plan is to play a better social game than Rachel, which really shouldn’t be too tough. Thankfully, she also wants to be “more demure”. Those of us disgusted by that family is so grateful.

The vast majority of this interview is based around Rachel, and what she will do differently and similar to her. She believes her yoga regime will be a huge asset to her in the endurance competitions, and I can’t argue with that.

Somehow, I made it through the entire interview. I now need a stiff, stiff drink...and a shower. Sadly, if she does refrain from her sister’s over-the-top antics, we’re going to be stuck with a Reilly up to the very end...although she may need some help here and there from Grodner.

Scott's Initial Impressions - Spencer

Spencer Clawson, 31

Hometown: Conway, Ark.

Current City: Conway, Ark.

Railroad Conductor

A long, long time ago, your intrepid Big Brother reporter actually made an attempt to be a musician. A bunch of friends who had a band needed a bass player. I owned a bass, but didn’t know how to play it. Neither did they, so the method that was used was they would figure out what the bass line was, and then teach it to me.

Since I have a pretty good memory, I did “learn” what they taught me, but I never really felt like I was learning the instrument. After a couple of rehearsals, I bowed out. There was one song, though, that I felt proud about being able to play, and that was “Driver 8” by R.E.M.

Why do I bring this up now? I couldn’t get it out of my head as I listened to Spencer’s interview. He is a railroad conductor after all (who knew that was still a career?), and these are the lyrics to that song:

The walls are built up, stone by stone,

The fields divided one by one

And the train conductor says

"Take a break Driver 8, Driver 8 take a break

We've been on this shift too long"

And the train conductor says

"Take a break Driver 8, Driver 8 take a break

We can reach our destination, but we're still a ways away"

I saw a treehouse on the outskirts of the farm

The power lines have floaters so the airplanes won't get snagged

Bells are ringing through the town again,

Children look up, all they hear is sky-blue, bells ringing

And the train conductor says

"Take a break Driver 8, Driver 8 take a break

We can reach our destination, but we're still a ways away"

But we're still a ways away

Way to shield the hated heat

Way to put myself to sleep

Way to shield the hated heat

Way to put myself, my children to sleep

He piloted this song in a plane like that one

She is selling faith on the Go Tell crusade

Locomotive 8, Southern Crescent hear the bells ring again

Fields of wheat are lookin' thin

And the train conductor says

"Take a break Driver 8, Driver 8 take a break

We've been on this shift too long"

If I was to ever interview Spencer, my first question would be whether he was a fan of this song. It’s highly doubtful, though, as his Duck Dynasty beard certainly points to him being a ZZ Top fan. Who knows, though?

This is an extremely likable guy. He’s laid back, honest, and really has no annoying traits. He understands that it is unlikely that he’ll have a showmance, but will be more than happy to have a flirty, “friend zone” relationship.

He is another one that throws out the superfan line, and says he has had the live feeds in the past. He is also one of the rare players to come out of one of those cattle calls that occur in every medium-sized city in the country.

Ok, now he has really won me over. The interviewer made the mistake of comparing him to Adam, and he take a bit of umbrage to that. “Thank you for comparing me to the fat white guy with no hair and facial hair.” I have to take away points, though, for saying he hopes he plays more like Enzo.

I really want to see Spencer go far, and in previous seasons I think he could have don just that. Like last year, for instance. He is certainly smarter than the likes of Frank. This year, though, he will have to compete with jock types and bikini models. If he can infiltrate the cool kid’s club, he can be a real threat. I’ll be rooting for him, but the odds are that he’ll be out around jury house time.
